Ponni Rice is a widely popular medium-grain variety cultivated mainly in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.

Admired for its soft texture, mild aroma, and subtly sweet flavor, it is a staple in South Indian cuisine. The name “Ponni” is derived from the Kaveri River (locally called Ponni), along whose fertile banks it is traditionally grown.
